A dialogue between object and space unfolds in the installation Retracted Spirit (Kindness on Your Part), inspired by the folding mechanism of an umbrella. At its core is a semi-transparent, white glowing tube, encased by two black metal rings. From these rings, metal rods stretch outward, forming dynamic triangular geometries. It almost seems as if the ends of the rods are reaching out, gently exploring the walls.
The structure adapts to the dimensions of the space: depending on the rings’ positions, the rods extend or contract, creating a site-specific diagram of forces. The walls contain the sculpture’s potential for expansion, exhausting its movement within the set parameters, yet enabling a delicate balance and stability to emerge. In this interdependence, the sculpture transforms the room into an active participant, negotiating between its physical limits and the dynamic tension of its form.
