Eleos: An Outrage in 36 Miniatures
(Eleos: eine Empörung in 36 Miniaturen, Caren Jeß)
2022
Staatstheater Braunschweig
Regie: Nils Zapfe
Eleos is a score of rage, unfolding in 36 miniatures that explore the emotional spectrum from foreboding to malevolence. With poetic precision and a delicate rhythm, Caren Jeß crafts a haunting cacophony of darkness that is both unsettling and captivating.
Director Nils Zapfe and scenographer Edith Kollath navigate the intricate relationship between text and stage, engaging in a process of constant refinement to align language, movement, and form. Kollath’s costume design reflects this search for resonance, emphasizing transformation and intensity. Each miniature is marked by a costume change, moving from minimalist attire with barcodes symbolizing raw vulnerability, to stark black-and-white ensembles, and finally to vibrant tulle creations that echo an emotional crescendo.
This process-driven collaboration transforms Eleos into an evolving interplay of text and performance, capturing its tragicomic essence through the dynamic tension between precision and experimentation.
