FINDLING #1–7
2017–18
Split boulder (mineralogical immigrant), brass hinges
Different sizes

A boulder unfolds its hidden geometries under brutal force, splitting into sharp-edged fragments that reveal material untouched by atmosphere for millions of years. In Findlinge, Edith Kollath opens erratic blocks — stones transported far from their origins by glaciers or rivers, whose presence once puzzled those unaware of geological processes. At the moment of fracture, the interior becomes a new surface, resisting full disclosure of its secrets.
Recomposed with brass hinges, the fragments of these »mineralogical immigrants« gain a reversible unfolding potential, echoing the geodynamic forces that shaped them.
