ADDRESSABLE VOLUME
2018
Five channel video installation
4:45‘ (looped)
In the video installation Addressable Volume (2018), Edith Kollath gives our air bodies a brief presence. She contours the breath/air flowing out of the performers' bodies through hollow glass bodies that expand and ultimately burst into countless particles under the swelling pressure of the breath. This releases an individual gas mixture that expands and combines with the circulating air. A process that portrays the leaky boundaries of our bodies and our interconnectedness: How far do our breathing bodies expand? How do my breathing body and yours touch? The breath forces us into a rhythmic balance between our own and the other. We take in and we give out and are connected beyond all words with all beings in this world. I take your breath into me. You are inspired in me. And I breathe myself out into you.
