Edith Kollath works and breathes in Berlin. In her artistic practice and research,
she examines transformation processes, precarious conditions and their particular
social, ecological and philosophical contexts. This results in multimedia installations,
performative objects and collaborative projects that become centers of thought
and text movements spanning a wide variety of disciplines within the Arts and Sciences.
She studied fine arts as well as fashion and costume design in Hamburg. From 2006 to
2009 she was an active member of the hacker collective NYC Resistors in New York, USA,
where she realized various projects and gave workshops and lectures. Her works are
exhibited nationally and internationally and she has received numerous grants.
Her monograph »Manoeuvre of Plenty« was published in 2013 by Distanz Verlag.
As a contribution to the field of artistic research, Edith Kollath developed her
aesthetic-respiratory research method in her Ph.D. thesis “Respiration Essays. On the
Contingent Agencies of the Breath of Artworks” at Bauhaus-University Weimar, which
takes up the tripartite rhythm of breath. Inspiration, expiration and pause are used as
specific principles of an intraaction process to discuss sensory aspects of artworks and
corresponding transdisciplinary theories.
